News from the Chair

Despite us being in the “closed season” for bowls the Club continues to carry out work whether socially or the Management Committee working on matters to improve the Club.

In November last year we held a presentation night for our Junior Bowlers and Austin Wood was presented with the Junior Challenge Shield by our President, Alan Harris. On this same evening we had four teams of 4 join us from Frampton-On-Seven for a successful night of quizzing.

Our new Honours Boards have been completed and are proudly on display showing past winners as far back as 1924. Also, the changing rooms have has a fresh coat of paint and are looking very smart.

We have a new sponsor, T H White, who are sponsoring both the main Club and specifically our Junior section. We very much appreciate their support.

During this year we plan to start paying back some of the loans that members have kindly provided to allow us to develop the Clubroom and changing rooms. We will be continuing with our development of the Club and outside of our normal fund raising we will be seeking funding from numerous external sources to refurbish our kitchen. This work will cost around £8000 and will provide us with a safe and modern kitchen. There is a display at the kitchen hatch showing what we want to achieve.

Various dates have been agreed for the new season. The first one for your diaries is Sunday 16 April when we will be opening the green. More details will be sent nearer the time. The Ladies will start their campaign with an away match to Cotswold on 5 June in the Corinium League and in the triples league an away match to Malmesbury on the same date.

The Men’s A team start their season off on 9 May with a home match against Cotswold A. I am at the time of writing awaiting the first match details for our B team.

We have two sub-committees which members are invited to join or support if they wish. The first sub-committee is looking at our Club clothing in preparation for the 2024 season. The second sub-committee is looking at the viability of holding this year’s dinner and prize giving in the Clubroom. This has many advantages for the membership and one we hope we can carry out. If you feel you would like to be involved in these projects, please let me know.

The Club’s coaches are meeting soon to put a plan in place for the coming season. Whilst primarily for new bowlers and Juniors we are looking at ways to support existing members who may be looking for support in improving their bowling.

I hope you have found this informative, and I hope to send future newsletters as news and information becomes available.
