We are on the green

The weather was kind to us for our Opening Gala on Sunday the 12 of April with just a few spits and spots of rain, which quickly passed over. We began with the annual photo, eager faces, ready for anything. Then followed the Spider, this year to raise funds for VIBE, Visually Impaired Bowls England, to help towards their costs competing in the Commonwealth Games. The spider was won by Chris Bridgeman who received the coveted VIBE badge which can only be worn by winners of their spiders. The first bowl to officially open the green was delivered by Phoebe, one of our juniors, a very promising young bowler who has this season been welcomed into our Monday evening Stroud Valley Triples League.

We were then straight into midweek and weekend friendlies against other clubs and, shortly the draw for club competitions will be completed, then it's all go!

Friday night winter socials have now ended: the £250 bingo jackpot was won, Greg's music quizzes were very well received and we had a go at short mat bowling in the club house, fun but not as easy as it looks! The beginning of May will see the start of our Friday evening league, a great opportunity for new players to come and develop their skills, with a definite competitive edge.

There are lots of opportunities for you to find out more about Tetbury Bowls Club and for you to come and have a go yourself. We are delighted to have had new members join us already this year and if you'd like to see what it's about please come along to one of our Play Bowls Open Days on Sunday the 3rd of May, Sunday the 31st of May, Saturday the 13th of June and Saturday the 4th of July, anytime between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. Just wear flat soled shoes and we will provide everything else. If you're interested in taking it further you will be given three sessions of coaching then, if you choose to join us as a playing member, encouraged to take part in friendly matches. These are played both at home and away and definitely live up to their name, providing an afternoon of fun, exercise, and gentle competition. Parking is free for those attending bowls events, please remember to enter your registration on the tablet immediately you arrive at the club.
