Following on from last month’s article, I’m delighted to say that our new new kitchen is in, up and running, just waiting for a few final touches to complete. It looks great and our ‘men in hats’ have done incredibly well to fit smooth modern units into a definitely not straight walled room. So good to see people happy in their work!

Attention will now turn to getting the rest of the clubhouse and the green ready for our Opening Gala on Sunday 12th April. Last September we put the green to bed, since then it has had numerous treatments, without being played upon, in readiness for the new season. Here’s hoping for some dry weather!

For the last few years we have been running a short mat club at St Mary’s School for the pupils. On Thursday 26th March from 6 to 7 pm we will be holding a Juniors refresher session on short mat up at the club, all under 18's welcome. The mat will be left out for Friday the 27th so members can have a go too, a new experience for many of us.

Over the years the club has accumulated many photographs, which are currently being worked through with the aim of putting them into albums for ease of looking at. At the same time, as the photographs span many years, efforts are being made to identify some of the people in the pictures.

This year the club celebrates seventy years at its current location. Although formed in 1908 it was on the 7th of May 1956 that the first game was played at the present green. Plans are afoot to mark the occasion later in the season.

Tetbury Bowls Club is always ready to welcome new members, both playing and social. We will be holding a number of open days for you to come and see what it’s about and have a go. Look forward to seeing you there.
