Your current Management Committee met for the last time last week in advance of the Club's Annual General Meeting when all positions come up for re-election. I would encourage you to attend the AGM, being held on Monday 27 October starting at 7 pm. This is an opportunity for the membership to hear how the Club has performed during the past year and to vote by ballot for the various positions that make up the Management Committee and that keeps the Club running. Angela Cary has already sent out the Agenda for the meeting and the minutes of last year's meeting.
Unlike last year the closing gala remained dry and we were able to enjoy a last game of bowls and buffet afterwards. The green has now been "put to bed" and our contractor, Avonmore, have completed their comprehensive work to the green. Let us hope for some mild autumn weather to allow the seed to take and promote new growth in readiness for 2026.
Our next socials are a quiz night on Friday 10 October followed by Bingo on 17 October. Following the Bingo we have what is proving increasingly popular, the Sunday morning coffee and bacon rolls gathering, on 19 October starting at 11 am with the bar opening at noon. Don't forget to sign on for these events on the Club website.
Chris Bridgeman tries to offer the membership a variety of social events during the closed season and to this end you are asked that if you have any ideas for a social function please let Chris know. This could be along the lines of a games night or a themed evening meal.
At the end of the month we have the Presentation Dinner. Details have already been sent to the membership and the closing date for those wishing to attend is 11 October. If you have not already booked your place please email me at this address with your choice of food.
A long time member of our Club, Terry Wilkins, has decided to hang up his bowls. Terry has held various positions over the years and has been a loyal supporter of our Club. Thank you Terry. One of the positions Terry held was that of a Trustee of the Club. The other Trustees, Heather Glassbrook, Roger Bird and Glyn Hall, have asked Angela Cary to fill the vacant position and Angela has accepted this offer.
The "Men In Hats" have started the autumn closed season off by working on the fourth and final pavement side of the green to be relayed. Work has progressed very well and new, level, slabs are already being laid. Well done chaps.
The next time I write you will be after the AGM when we will have a newly appointed Management Committee. Thank you to those that have served in the past year and I look forward to working with the new Management Committee.
Best wishes, Keith
