News from the Chair May 2026

With the playing season in full swing it is great to be out playing lawn bowls once again.

There is much activity around all the different competitions with individual matches, league games, friendlies and members coming along for a friendly roll up.  If you have not already been to the Friday roll up, sign on no later than 6.15pm, then please think about joining in what is a friendly way to meet new members over 10 ends.

I am pleased to report that the Memory Tree now has 13 leaves on it detailing past Club Members no longer with us.  If you have someone you would like to have remembered on the tree please let Jan Yates or myself know.

Dawn, our Bar Manager, would like some support for three dates later this year.  The dates are 30 July, 12 August and 19 August.  If you are able to help please speak to Dawn.

Thank you to all of you that completed our members survey.  The responses are being worked through and the results will be discussed by your management committee at their next meeting in June.

In July we will be hosting a touring group of cyclists from the USA who are travelling around the UK and trying out various experiences on their travels.  We have agreed with the organisers that they will visit us to watch a game of bowls and an afternoon tea.  I'll let you know more once final timings are known.

It is lovely to see the areas around the green looking bright and colourful with some great planting.  As with everything at our Club this is carried out by volunteers.  Our band of gardeners are John Craigie, Susanne and Vincent, Charlie and Dawn Crewe, Jan, Heather, Vic and Chris, Pat and Lance and Mike and Angela P.

We had our first public Open Day on 3 May.  Despite some dismal weather some people turned up and we hope to welcome some more new members.

Our next Open day is Sunday 31 May, running from 10 am until 4 pm.  If you are able to assist on this day, even for an hour or two, please turn up and help us promote our Club and sport.

We  have received a thank you letter from VIBE (Visually Impaired Bowls England)  for the money we raised running a spider at our Opening Gala.  We have one more VIBE badge to play for later in the year.

We have many great things going on at our Club and we want to widen the communication to the public.  If you have a story or photograph relating to the Club that is worth sharing please post this onto our Facebook page.

Best wishes, Keith.
