The countdown is really on now for the start of the new season with two weeks to go. If you have not already signed on please do so if you want to play. If you are attending as a Social Member please sign on using the Club website. Chris needs to know catering numbers. We will be holding a spider before the match starts which will be in aid of VIBE (Visually Impaired Bowls England). The nearest the jack will receive a unique VIBE cap badge. The only way you can get one is winning a spider.
We had a very good turnout of members on Tuesday night volunteering to help with various tasks to tidy up and maintain the green and surroundings. Thank you to all of you who have agreed to undertake the various tasks.
Your Competitions Committee have printed off the entry forms for the Club competitions and these are available from the bar. The closing date for entries is 10 May. A reminder will be sent by the Competitions Committee nearer the closing date.
Our first Open Day for the public to try lawn bowls will be held on Sunday 3 May from 10 am until 4 pm. If you know of anyone, young or old, who is interested please encourage them to attend. All they need is flat soled footwear.
During April we will be sending all members a survey to complete that is seeking to obtain your views on how the Club is run, what you would like to see more (or less) of, particularly around social events and any ideas to help make the Club successful. Please help us by completing the survey when it arrives.
Calne Bowls Club will be running an open event on 17 May and details are available on a poster in the Clubroom. It is a three wood triples with cash prizes of £500.
If you are interested in volunteering to help run the bar can you please let Dawn or myself know. Dawn is a playing member of the Club so needs support in keeping the bar open.
Don't forget to register your vehicle when parking at the Club to avoid a fine. The tablet to register is in the Clubroom and will cover your parking until midnight on the day of registering.
Finally if you are reading this today, Friday 27 April, the Club is making use of St. Mary's short mat as a demonstration of this fun branch of the game of bowls. Please come along and give it a go or just to watch and have a drink. Chris will be laying on sausage rolls and rolls of various fillings.
Best wishes, Keith
