News from the Chair Apr 2026

Following a successful, and well attended, opening gala your Management Committee met to discuss a variety of issues and check on progress on plans for the  season ahead.

This year is the 70th anniversary of the Club moving to our current location and plans are underway for a date during the season to hold some form of celebration.  More details will follow shortly.

We have now chosen a leaf design for the Memory Tree where members can have a leaf placed on the tree in memory of a past member.  We have an initial 10 leaves to be fixed to the tree in memory of past members.  If any members would like to add a name please let me or Jan Yates know.  Each leaf carries the name of the past member and appropriate dates.  The cost is £17 per leaf  and each one is individual to the person being remembered.

Later this month we will be sending a members survey to you all in which we are looking for feedback and opinions on a variety of topics that impact how we run your Club.  Please take the time to reply.

The Club can only survive on the efforts of volunteers.  To this end we are looking for members who are willing to undertake a tea duty.  This duty is when we have a visiting Club and provide players with refreshments.  There is a list of dates to be covered on the wall to the right of the bar.  Please add your name if you can help out.

Our first Open Day will be held on Sunday 3 May from 10 am to 4 pm. This is the first of 4 dates where we seek to attract new members to the game of lawn bowls. If you can afford an hour or two to help with running this event please contact me.  We will have our recognised coaches present on the day but they need help in a variety of ways in introducing potential new members.

We have run a Corporate Day over the past few years for teams of players, 4 players to a team, who have not played bowls before.  This year Rich Thomas is running the event for us on Sunday 16 August starting at 12.30.  This is a fun day where we offer local people the chance to have a friendly game of bowls against teams from a variety of backgrounds.  Teams can come from family groups, local businesses, work colleagues or organisations.  Please let Rich know if you know of such a group.

See you on the green.

Best wishes, Keith.
