Club celebrates 70 years as part of recreation ground

What a busy and successful season we are having up at Tetbury Bowls Club. We have a new sponsor in Upton Mill Care Home who have agreed to pay half the cost towards our splendid, newly designed jackets. These are currently on order so more about them when they arrive.
This year marked the 70th anniversary of playing on our current green and we had a great day celebrating. We invited lots of previous members and ex players to join us for a barbecue, provided by Kim, and a few fun games ably organised by Mark. The overall winners were Greg and Sharon Sharpe and Gary Edwards, who also provided the magnificent anniversary cake, cut by our Chair and Fixtures Secretary Keith and Heather Glassbrook.

The weather has challenged our green keepers to maintain a surface fit for playing and they have done a great job under the difficult circumstances.
Our men’s teams have done very well in the leagues, the juniors have started playing for the Jumior Shield and our new players in the ladies league have settled in extremely well. We are extraordinarily proud of our Ladies Captain, Susanne Knaus, who made it through to the National quarter finals at Leaminton Spa, Well Done Susanne!
As well as midweek and weekend friendlies, June and July saw the annual Pride Pairs, Mike Bird and 51 Up competitions, all sponsored by late members of the club. We also hosted a group of USA cyclists on tour. They watched part of a game, had a go themselves then were treated to home made scones with jam and cream and copious pots of tea. They enjoyed themselves so much they left us a donation and promised to return.
Our club comps are coming to an end now with semi finals being played and dates arranged for finals, it’s exciting to see to see who our winners will be this year. We still have friendlies to play, County matches to host and Corporate Day to come before our Closing Gala in September.
