Tetbury Bowling in Portugal

What a great time the 24 members of Tetbury Bowls Club had on our 2026 tour to Portugal. The weather was perfect for our bowling, exploring the area, visiting the beach and lounging by the pool. We visited three different bowling clubs along the Algarve and played other teams from Dublin (what great characters they were), Bognor Regis and, very interestingly, teams of deaf and dumb players from Manch
ester. Communication wasn’t as difficult as might be imagined as universal bowls signals came into their own as well as a few novel gestures we made up as we went along. Competition was fierce in all games and overall Tetbury managed to come out on top. Great fun was had by all and thanks go again to Keith for organising.
Back home we had an excellent day for our Closing Gala where our opening spider game raised £52 for the charity VIBE, Visually Impaired Bowls England. Forty-four members played over six rinks then they, and our spectators, enjoyed a delicious buffet put together for us by Heather.
Our next main event is Presentation Evening where all our club competition winners are celebrated over a meal and awarding of trophies, followed by our AGM where our new committee will be elected for the next year.
On the social side, Friday evenings are a great way of getting together and keeping in touch with each other. So far we have have played Bingo with a new £250 jackpot to be won, and a fiendish music quiz from Mike. Here’s to enjoying more social events over the coming winter months.
