Fun @ Play Bowls open event

Giving lawn bowls a go!

With the sun shining and just a bit of a breeze, we were delighted to welcome about 20 newcomers during our Play Bowls open event in mid-April. It was great to see so many interested in giving lawn bowls a go and we’re pleased that quite a few have since joined the club. The novices have already started their free coaching sessions and we look forward to them signing up to play in future friendly fixtures.

This year’s green inspection went well. The Gloucestershire Bowling Association’s Greens Committee reported that we again have achieved the standard required to host county and national fixtures. A huge thank you and congratulations to Vic, Brian, and Vincent for all their hard work and daily efforts throughout the year.

We celebrated the King’s Coronation with a well-attended ‘watch party’. Unfortunately, the heavy rain meant no bowls could be played in the afternoon, but the BBQ, salad buffet and cakes were still very much appreciated. Many thanks to Chris, Vic, Sharon, Vincent, Heather, and others who prepared the goodies and helped put on a lovely event.

This weekend (26-29 May) is Bowls Big Weekend, Bowls England’s national event. If you’ve free time between noon and 4pm on the 28th of May, we’d love to see some of you stop by the club during our open event to have some fun and try lawn bowls.

And, our upcoming Corporate Day on the 3rd of June might be another opportunity to have a go. This fun day of bowls with a cream tea is for teams from clubs, organisations, and businesses – or a group of friends and family – who have no lawn bowls experience. A hamper of goodies will be presented to the day’s winners. For more information, visit www.tetburybowlsclub.co.uk/corporate-day.

An important upcoming event that we are hosting is the semi-finals of the Gloucestershire men’s triples championship on the evening of the 12th of June. Tetbury had 3 teams entered with Fraser, Gary P, and Roger and their players competing in the early rounds held throughout May. At press time, we don’t know how far they’ve progressed, but fingers crossed!

And if you think you’d like to give lawn bowls a go but can’t make the events mentioned above, don’t hesitate to get in touch at tetburybowls@gmail.com as we hold social roll ups on Friday evenings!
