Hopefully, the weather will be kind to us – at least dry if not warm, please. The winter’s hard work preparing the green and revamping its surrounds is showing great results. We’ve more benches available around the green for both players and spectators, and new plantings that promise us splashes of colour over the summer.
Although our first friendly match on the 15th of April is away at Malmesbury on their artificial surface, you’ll see us on Tetbury’s green at our opening gala on the 16th of April. Our proximity to the recreation ground means you’re more than welcome to pop in, grab a drink, take a seat, and watch as we try to recapture our form after six months of ‘other’ activities. It’s more comfortable than watching over the wall.
And, if you want to know when we’re next playing at home so that you can come and watch, there’s a list of Home Friendlies (under Diary) on our website, as well as the full fixtures list which includes away games, men’s, and ladies league matches, plus a few club competition dates.
For juniors, our weekly coaching sessions start on Sunday 23 April. It will be great to see players from last year’s season back on the green – they’re a great bunch and we love to see them enjoying the sport. Plus, we’re hoping to see some of our after-school short-mat players join us too – even though moving from indoor to outdoor play offers quite a different experience. Anyone aged between 9-18 is welcome to come along with an adult to see what it’s all about!
YOU ARE INVITED – everyone who is interested in challenging themselves to learn a new sport, who wants to participate in a gentle social outdoor activity or find new friends in the community. Our annual free open taster sessions will take place the last weekend of April (look for our ad in this month’s issue). We know that there’s always lots going on over the weekends, but if you have an hour or so to spare, stop by and give lawn bowls a try. Families are particularly welcome as it’s a great sport to do together. Just wear flat soled shoes and we’ll guide you through the basics.
If you want to learn more about lawn bowls, becoming a member, or the club itself, don’t hesitate to get in touch via email to tetburybowls@gmail.com or visit our website.
