Fantastic news! The Gloucestershire Bowling Association’s Greens Committee has inspected our green and we’ve obtained the standard required to host county and national fixtures. We can’t wait to be selected as hosts. This is a tremendous result for our team of volunteer green keepers and our specialist contractors. A sincere thank you and congratulations to Vic, Brian, and Vincent for all their hard work and daily efforts throughout the year.
Another thank you goes to everyone who participated in our Play Bowls and Junior Bowls Days. We really enjoyed sharing our love of lawn bowls with you! And we’re thrilled that so many new members joined us whether as adult or junior players or social members. It’s great to see the novices have already attended a couple of their free coaching sessions, and those who have played before are jumping straight in and getting involved in the friendlies.
Our weekly junior section coaching kicked off on Sunday the 8th of May, and we were delighted that some of the participants from St Mary’s ‘short mat’ after-school program attended. Any children aged 9-18 are welcome to join in these sessions; just contact us at tetburybowls@gmail.com for more details.
Now that the season is well and truly underway, you’ll see more of us out on the green playing everything from individual or team practices to the early rounds of national or county competitions, local leagues, midweek and weekend ‘friendlies’, and in our very own club competitions. Of particular interest in June – after celebrating The Queen’s 70-year reign of course - is the Berkshire vs Gloucestershire County ladies friendly on the afternoon of the 10th, and our ‘group day’ on Sunday the 19th. Spectators are always welcome to stop by, and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask one of us.
